The Maharaja Agrasen Business School’s One-Day Entrepreneurship Program
To allow PGDM Students to dive into the world of entrepreneurship, develop innovative business ideas, and gain hands-on experience in the art of running a business, Maharaja Agrasen Business School recently conducted an exciting and insightful one-day Entrepreneurship Program, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The program, which took place in the vibrant neighborhood’s of Delhi provided a unique platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to explore their creativity and business acumen.
From Wholesale to Retailer: THE REGISTER RESALE HUSTLE
The Register resale hustle in this edition of our unlocking the Entrepreneurship spirit series, we dive into the journey of a spirited team who ventured into the world of stationery trade – transforming an idea into action, and action into achievement.
This is the story of “THE REGISTER RESALE HUSTLE” – a one day entrepreneurial experiment that took us from bustling lanes of Chandani Chowk to the shop fronts of Rohini.
The Dream Team :
Every great business journey begins with a team that believes in the idea – and each other.
Our powerhouse consisted of:
- Muskan Goyal- The strategist with a sharp eye for deals.
- Nandini Agrawal – The calm negotiator who could seal any bargain.
- Shubham Takkar – The numbers wizard ensuring every rupee counted.
- Gagan Kataria – The people-person connecting effortlessly with customers.
The spark of an idea :
We didn’t want something flashy or overly complex- we wanted something practical, scalable, and achievable in one day. After a lively brainstorming session, we landed
on a clear plan –
Buy registers in bulk from a trusted wholesale market > then resell them to local
retailers for a profit.
Simple ? Yes.
Easy? Not quite.
Sourcing the Stock : The Nai Sarak Mission
Our journey began in the legendary lanes of Nai Sarak, Chandni Chowk – a stationery paradise where every shop overflows with papers, books, and registers of all sizes.
Armed with Rs.4,000, we compared prices across multiple shops, noted market trends and negotiated until we secured 73 registers at just Rs.55 each.
This wasn’t just a purchase – it was the result of careful research, cost comparison, and confident negotiation.
The Sales Battlefield : Rohini’s Retailers
With our stock in hand, we headed to Rohini – a hub of small stationery retailers, schools, and coaching centres.
Here’s what the day threw at us :
- Pitching Products – Convincing shopkeepers that our registers were worth their shelf space.
- Bargaining Battles – Retailers negotiated hard, and we learned to protect our margins without losing the sale.
- Adapting in Real-Time – Some wanted smaller quantities, some preferred certain sizes, and others were swayed by bundle discounts.
The sun was merciless, our bags were heavy, and competition was everywhere but our
determination kept us moving.
What We Learned Along the Way:
Walking through multiple shops before buying gave us the upper hand in negotiations and pricing.
- Negotiation is a Skill You Can’t Fake – Every rupee saved in purchasing meant more profit at the end of the day.
- Customer Psychology is the key – We quickly learned that some retailers valued quality, others cared only about price and a few simply bought because they liked our energy and persistence.
- Teamwork Makes the Day Work – From carrying stock to handling money to making the pitch, dividing roles was the secret to our efficiency.
- Financial Tracking is Non-Negotiable – We kept every expense and sale recorded, so we knew exactly where we stood at any point.
The Final Tally :
By the end of our whirlwind day:
Total Sales: Rs. 5,846.50
Net Profit: 1,547
The numbers alone were satisfying, but the real profit was in the confidence, experience, and practical skills we carried forward.
More Than just Business:
This venture wasn’t just about selling registers, it was about testing ourselves.
Could we identify an opportunity, act on it, and see it through under real market pressure ?
The answer was a resounding yes.
The One-Day Entrepreneurship Program by Maharaja Agrasen Business School gave us the platform to step outside the classroom and into the marketplace. The registers may have been sold, but the lessons learned will keep adding value for years to come.
